Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike is a program dedicated to empowering the youth of Hana, Maui through hands-on learning opportunities that are not just educational but deeply connected to Hana’s community.
By prioritizing hands-on learning in areas like construction, agriculture, and culinary arts, Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike is equipping future generations to become leaders who can respond effectively to the needs around them. Its programs cater to all students, whether they plan to attend college or enter the workforce immediately, allowing them to hone critical skills in problem-solving and real-world execution.
“I was inspired to work here so that I could gain the knowledge of construction and bond with other students through the work. We also help our Kupuna a lot and it’s crucial for us to step in and care for them. I enjoy doing this work for them,” says Lawapono Kuahiwinui, Student Apprentice, Hana Build.
The trades not only enrich individual lives but also strengthen the fabric of the Hana community. Those interested in learning more about Ma Ka Hana Ka ‘Ike or want to support its mission, can do so via its official website.
