HA Day at Hana School

February 24, 2017, real time at Hāna School — Today is HA (Na Hopena Aʻo) Day and Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke worked with school and community to help make it happen ... The kids came out of their classrooms and went straight into protocol. Then with the help of our Malama Haloa practitioners and students newly trained on kuʻi, the kids pounded their own paʻi ʻai. They then took their fresh-pounded kalo to the Building Program grill station to make paʻi ʻai pancakes topped with kalua pig. Next they went to the Mahele Farm station and, with the help of our farm team, made ice cream from farm-fresh bananas. At the next station, they participated in ʻolelo Hawaiʻi storytelling and the playing of makahiki games. Among the comments overheard were, "This is the most fun I've ever had in school" and "I wish every school day was like this!"Check it out—Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke is running its first ever crowdfunding campaign! And we need your support ... To make a donation to help out with programs like these, please click here: https://www.gofundme.com/maintaining-ma-ka-hana-ka-ike
