The Beginnings of Mahele Farm
As an extension of our sustainable building training and kupuna garden projects, we’re introducing a Sustainable Agriculture program to Ma Ka Hana Ka ʻIke in 2010. The cornerstone will be Mahele Farm—a community farm run by and for the people of Hana. (See circled area on photo.)
Led by Kahanu Garden director Kamaui Aiona, and in collaboration with Hana School’s ag classes, Mahele Farm will be a place where everyone—students, community volunteers, kupuna—can come to learn hands-on about growing our own food. When it comes harvest time, we’ll mahele (divide/share) the bounty.
Check back to watch our progress!
