Wood Mosaic of Hawaiian Islands
It’s not a painting, it’s made of wood—locally grown wood like koa, kamani, ʻohiʻa … Our students have been making extraordinary pieces of art this year in the shop. The mosaic above shows the Hawaiian Island chain in bas-relief—sculpted contours depict the volcanoes; the wooden sea is navigated by a waʻa, or sailing canoe.
